The Maldives government has announced its decision on acquiring multiple wide-body aircraft towards launching international flight operations of Maldivian; the national airline of the country.
Following the most recent cabinet meeting, President’s Office Spokesperson Mohamed Shaheeb, during the follow-up press conference said the national airline’s plan of launching direct flight services to prominent tourist market destinations.
The Spokesperson said the government’s plan of acquiring two new wide-body aircraft for the Maldivian Airline’s fleet in the upcoming days.
“The government has decided to arrange the funding for Island Aviation through the applicable financing facility the Ministry of Finance to purchase the wide-body aircraft for the operations,” Shabeeb said.
While speaking with the press, Shaheeb said the cabinet’s decision to facilitate international aviation operations through the initiation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also said that top priority for Maldivian’s international operations is China right now, mainly due to the significant tourist market the country attracts to the Maldives.
As for sustainability, the government would facilitate expenses for handling, navigation and parking of aircraft, thereby increasing Maldivian Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s financial capacity.
“The government would take measures to expedite the efforts to complete the necessary tasks according to the timeline, which could be supervised through the economic council,” Shabeeb added.
