Sheikh Imran in a tweet said that Nazim needed to be released to assure the rights of every citizen. He has spoken in defence of Nazim on a number of occasions, saying he wasn’t one to murder anyone for the sake of power, and that he had full confidence in the former defence chief. “Tormenting someone who had spent day and night serving the people is no less than tormenting the people themselves,” said Sheikh Imran on an earlier occasion. Police claim to have confiscated a 9mm pistol, magazine, three bullets, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and an incriminating pendrive during the raid on Nazim’s private residence on January 18. Later led by claims that police had also received intelligence reports he was planning a coup to overthrow the government with some other individuals.
