Colombo: Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Ms. Dunya Maumoon has called on the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka H E Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe.
During the Call, the Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings and felicitations of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the people of Maldives to the Prime Minister and new Government of Sri Lanka. She also congratulated the Sri Lankan people for their strong determination and commitment to the democratic process and stated that the recent President election was testimony of the resilience of the democratic institutions of the country.
The Minister also recalled the long-standing close bilateral relations that exist between the Maldives and Sri Lanka and reiterated the commitment of the Government to work closely on further enhancing the enduring friendship.
Speaking after meeting, Foreign Minister Dunya said, “Sri Lanka is one of Maldives’ closest neighbours and our ties, both formal and informal, goes back to ages. It is a second home for a large Maldivian community and vice versa. Our interests are intertwined and friendship is based on goodwill and mutual trust. The Maldives is indeed very proud of Sri Lanka’s developments and its democratic achievements”.
The Call was also participated by the Minister at the President’s Office H E Mr. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and the High Commissioner of Maldives in Sri Lanka H E Ms. Zahiya Zareer.
