Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the Home Minister’s mandate has been changed and now the minister does not have the authority to make direct orders to Police.
Home Minister Umar Naseer made this remark answering the questions of Galolhu constituency MP Eva Abdulla at the Peoples’ Majlis.
Umar Naseer said that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom exercised his right to discretion under law to change the mandate of the minister.
“However this does not bring any changes to the role and responsibility of Maldives Police Service. They will take their responsibilities as usual,” he said.
Umar Naseer said that the Maldives Police Service is now conducting special operations and they will restore the peace and stability in the society.
Spokesperson of the government, Ibrahim Muaz Ali said he does not want to make any comments yet on the statement of Umar Naseer regarding amendments brought to his mandate.
