Former Defence Minister during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s regime, Ameen Faisal has said that the current government of Maldives will become the laughing stock of the world if they keep Defence Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel in office while he faces terrorism charges.
Ameen Faisal said that the meaning of the terms terrorism and terror are now very confusing. He said that Major General (retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel is a national hero who used his own body as a shield to defend the Maldivian nation. However, he said that this national hero is charged with terrorism by the Prosecutor General.
He said that it is more ironic that he is being charged with terrorism while he is currently the Minister of Defence and National Security. Ameen Faisal called the Minister to resign from his post.
Criminal Court on Tuesday gave three days to prepare the defense and to appoint a lawyer to the Minister of Defense and National Security, Moosa Ali Jaleel who is also facing terror charges along with the opposition leader.
The state is pressing terror charges against opposition leader, Mohamed Nasheed, Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel, former Defense Minister, Tholhath Ibrahim and several others for the controversial detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge, Abdulla Mohamed.
