MNU launches 2026–2030 strategic plan to strengthen education, research and Maldivian identity

The Maldives National University (MNU) has officially launched its Strategic Plan for 2026 - 2030, outlining the institution’s roadmap for academic excellence, research, student empowerment, and national development.
The plan was unveiled at a ceremony held at MNU’s Central Administration, led by Chancellor Dr. Mahmood Shaugee and Vice Chancellor Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam.
Developed through extensive consultation with stakeholders, the plan provides a comprehensive framework to guide progress across teaching and learning, research and innovation, governance, student excellence, community engagement, and sustainable development.
At its core, the strategy aims to improve the quality of education, strengthen research output, and reinforce Maldivian identity in higher education. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Vice Chancellor Shehenaz said the launch not only sets clear goals for the next five years but also celebrates the dedication of MNU’s staff and students, and the achievements made despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Establishment of new faculties in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Security Studies
Launch of the MNU Innovate Hub to promote innovation and industry collaboration
Expanded PhD scholarships and international training opportunities
Enhanced student engagement, including a new student club policy and plans for a student union
The new plan builds on these milestones while addressing emerging challenges in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape. MNU will now move into the implementation phase, translating strategic goals into actionable initiatives across its campuses and academic units.
