Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Managing Director Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim has been dismissed from his post yesterday.
In a post on X last night, the Privatization and Corporatization Board said that Wajeeh has been dismissed from his post as Managing Director, as well as Board Director of MPL.
Wajeeh was appointed to the post on November 28, 2023.
Wajeeh's son, Legal Affairs Minister at President's Office Ahmed Hisham Wajeeh is married to a daughter of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla. Speaker Abdul Raheem's son, Ibrahim Faisal, was also dismissed last week from his position as Minister of Tourism.
The government has not yet officially commented on the reasons behind these dismissals.
Wajeeh filled senior positions at MPL even earlier, from 2013 to 2022. Across these years, he served as Assistant General Manager, General Manager and Assistant CEO.
Prior to joining MPL, Wajeeh held the position of Principal at different schools across the country. He also worked in the Finance Department of the Ministry of Education.
