This January saw MIFCO weigh 8,324 tonnes of fish, marking a record amount of fish weighed in a month even in the past 27 years.
MIFCO said today that this is also the highest amount of fish weighed in a January since 1997.
While the number has increased, it is a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to issue payments for fish weighed within 48 hours.
This was implemented in December last year.
Last month, MVR 4.2 million was disbursed for fish weighed from 91 fishing vessels.
