Dubai International Airport has once again climbed to the top of the list of the world’s busiest airports.
Passenger numbers at Dubai Airport have soared this year after air traffic slowed due to the pandemic.
According to the Official Airline Guide (OAG), which records aviation data, 14.2 million passengers traveled at Dubai International Airport in the second quarter of this year alone.
Dubai Airport traffic reached 27 million passengers in the first half of the year, just 1.2 million passengers away from matching its total traffic last year.
London’s Heathrow Airport is the second busiest airport in the world.
Prior to pandemic, Maldivians’ holiday hotspots have been Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand. Due to closure of several countries during COVID-19, and the restriction set post pandemic, Maldivians are now preferring to holiday in Dubai. At least, five flights are operating between Velana International Airport and Dubai International Airport daily.
