MDP aims to increase value of islands in Male’ atoll: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed said that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) aims to increase the value of the islands in Male’ atoll in the 19th parliament.
Speaking at a campaign event in K. Himmafushi on Friday, MDP leader Nasheed said that while one square feet of land in Himmafushi would not even sell for MVR 300 years previously, the value of land in the Male’ atoll have been rising exponentially since.
Nasheed said that MDP will use this rise in value to develop the islands including Himmafushi and increase the population, and give 40 percent of the profits from land leases in Lankan Finolhu and Lankan Fushi to the Himmafushi council, as part of the party’s parliamentary agenda.
He said that MDP needs parliament majority to take these steps toward decentralization.
