Toppling the government was never the intention of the opposition، says former deputy minister at Gender Ministry، Shidhatha Shareef.
Speaking at the opposition’s rally being held at the artificial beach tonight، Shidhatha said that the opposition’s movement held on Friday proved that the incumbent government is the minority. “The minority are in power.”
She further said that they never had called or demanded to overthrow the government.
“We do not want to commit any unlawful acts. We simply want to put an end to the cruelty.”
In addition، Shidhatha had، as well، called for an immediate release of the detained leaders of the opposition.
The opposition held a mass rally on Friday، lead by adhaalath leader Imran Abdulla، MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed، JP deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim. Police had arrested the three، later last night، following violent confrontations between the protesters and the police.
