Dr Didi decides to join another party

Recently removed elected President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Dr Ibrahim Didi has said that he has made the decision to leave MDP and join another political party.
In an interview with Sun today, Dr Didi said that this decision comes following being convinced that MDP does not function according to democratic principles, after he and Alhan Fahmy were removed from MDP leadership.
Dr Didi said that he had not yet decided which party he will join.
“We were removed by Nasheed because he wanted Mariya Didi to be the party President. I made this decision when I realised that Nasheed acted in the same manner towards us as he did towards the party’s two former Presidents [Dr Mohamed Munavvar and Ibrahim Ismail]. Also I am convinced that MDP does not function according to democratic principles,” he said.
He noted that before making the decision on which party to join, he will consider if the party works for the interest of the nation and for the benefit of the people.
“I have not made a decision. I won’t make a decision until I have discussed this with several people. I will assess what would be the best for the nation,” Dr Didi said.
Despite leaving MDP, he will continue with efforts to file a case to court regarding being removed from MDP leadership against the party’s basic regulation. The case will be filed as soon as the necessary documents are received from MDP.
“Regardless of where I am, I will work on that case. I believe I have to do this, because it was a crime against the two former Presidents as well. It is my responsibility to clarify the truth to party members,” Dr Didi said.
Alhan Fahmy has also implied at a press conference that he may be considering joining another party.
