Acting Health Minister: Health sector has made great progress

Acting Minister of Health Dr Mohamed Shainee has said that the local health sector has made great progress over the past few years.
The minister made this remark at a ceremony at Dhamanaveshi today, for the inauguration of a Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Clinic and Tobacco Cessation Clinic.
Highlighting some achievements of the health sector, Dr Shainee said that communicable diseases such as filariasis and malaria have been eradicated, and infant mortality rate has been significantly reduced in the Maldives.
He assured that the government would provide all resources and assistance required for the operation of the two clinics inaugurated today.
Services launched by the NCD Clinic include providing information and counselling on changing habits to control non-communicable diseases, and tests to measure blood pressure, sugar level, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
Services launched by the Tobacco Cessation Clinic include providing information on the dangers of smoking and the benefits of stopping smoking, counselling on stopping smoking, and phone service to provide information related to tobacco use.
Today’s ceremony at Dhamanaveshi was also attended by Attorney General Mohamed Anil and Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed.
