The Home Minister said that the government guarantees the safety and protection of the former president Mohamed Nasheed while he is carrying out his sentence.
The minister sent out a tweet tonight saying the safety, welfare and protection of the former president is guaranteed while in state custody.The Govt guarantees the safety, welfare & protection of former Prez Nasheed while in state custody. The former president Mohamed Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison last Friday for the unlawful arrest of the former chief judge of the Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
Home Minister has said earlier that no harm would come to the former president while he is in police custody and even self harm would be stopped.
President Nasheed is in Dhoonidhoo until a special unit is constructed in Maafushi Prison according to the Home Minister.
