Former Deputy Minister of Lanka arrested over shooting at Maithripala rally

Authorities arrest former Deputy Minister over the shooting at newly elected Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s campaign rally.
According to a Sri Lankan newspaper، the minister arrested over the shooting is former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara، who was hiding an estate in Beruwala at his time of arrest. He was arrested under the court order from Pelmadulla magistrate court.
Apart from the apprehension of the former Deputy Minister، authorities also arrested Sabaragamuwa Provincial Counselor Aruna Nilanth and Kahawatta Pradeshiya Saba’s chairman Vajira Dharsana، who are believed to be tied with the incident.
Three individuals sustained injuries during the shooting during the rally، among the two injured are members of the rally organizing team.
