Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs yesterday met with Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the High Level Segment of the twenty-eighth session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
During the meeting, the Minister and the Secretary General agreed to strengthen the existing close bonds of cooperation between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Republic of Maldives.
In this regard, Minister stated that Maldives stand steadfastly with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in all its endeavors and reiterated the Government’s unwavering support in the formation of an independent Palestinian State and in resolving the internal conflict of Syria.
Furthermore, the Minister raised concern for the acts of terrorism taking place around the world, in the name of Islam and Jihad, and stated that the Government of Maldives condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The Secretary General noted the significant role Maldives plays at the United Nations Human Rights Council and wished success in all endeavors. He expressed hope that the cooperation between the Maldives and the OIC would continue to strengthen in the coming years.
