Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dunya Maumoon has said that the international society is concerned regarding the political developments in Maldives.
Minister Dunya made this remark speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office.
However, Minister Dunya said that no country or international organization has tried to cause any undue influence on the internal affairs of Maldives. She said that the government of will accept such influence on a sovereign state such as Maldives.
Dunya said that the opposition is now trying to include Maldives among the agendas of CMAG. However she said that she does not believe that here is any right to do so. “During the year 2012 Maldives was included in the agenda of CMAG. However, it was not correct,” she said.
Dunya said that current trial against former President Mohamed Nasheed is conducted in accordance to the constitution. “I do not believe that Maldives has any place in the CMAG formal agenda,” she reiterated.
She said that the government has informed the details regarding the matter to Commonwealth member countries which have assigned ambassadors and High Commissioners to Maldives.
In view of the cancellation of the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendhra Modi, Minister Dunya said that she believes that the trip was cancelled not to cause any undue influence on Maldivian internal issues.
However, up until the press conference of Minister of Foreign Affairs, the ministry has been stating that it was not cancelled but postponed for another day.
