Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that there are no radicals in Maldives as per the international interpretation of the word.
He made this remark speaking at the press conference held at Saturday regarding the achievements of the Islamic Ministry.
Minister Shaheem said that the international interpretation of the word refers to terrorists who attack civilians and bomb places. He said that no such group is present in Maldives.
Dr. Shaheem said that the ministry is working to foster a modernist progressive moderate version of Islam. Therefore, if there is any hard liners, the ministry will try to educate them and admonish them.
He said that it is not the policy of the current government to take any action against any people but it will be done as a last resort if it cannot be resolved through mutual discussions.
