Velana International Airport (VIA) has served more than 2,000 passengers through its newly inaugurated terminal since operations began on July 27, 2025. The first flight to use the new terminal was a Maldivian Airlines aircraft arriving from Cochin International Airport, India.
As of July 30, VIA reported that the new terminal had handled 14 Maldivian Airlines flights, serving a total of 2,410 passengers — including 956 departing and 1,454 arriving travellers.
The transition of international flights to the new terminal is being managed through an Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process, in collaboration with international consulting firm Modalis.
VIA plans to complete the transfer of all airline services to the new terminal before the start of the upcoming tourism season by gradually transitioning airlines one at a time.
