The Business Centre Corporation (BCC) held a special event on the occasion of International Home-based Workers’ Day. October 20 is marked as the International Home-based Workers’ Day.
The event was held at Artificial Beach, Male’, on Friday, October 21.
Due to the lockdown caused by the pandemic, small businesses increased which are home-based, especially food and beverage businesses.
BCC noted that they are collaborating with the Ministry of Economic Development and UNDP Maldives to create a prosperous environment for small online businesses. The aim of the day is to raise public awareness of the services of home-based workers and to appreciate their work.
Twenty-one home-based workers participated in the event. The event was attended by vendors selling clothing for different ages, food vendors and entrepreneurs who manufacture various private products. As such, the highest number of participants were food vendors. Among them, there were businesses who make local products such as “Addoo Bon’di” and “Kulhi Kaajaa”. In addition, cake and pastry makers also participated in the event.
The Business Center Corporation, which was opened under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, is a company that promotes small and medium enterprises in Maldives.
