US Assistant Secretary of State calls on Minister of Foreign Affairs

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Ms Nisha D. Biswal called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Dunya Maumoon today. At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister welcomed the Assistant Secretary of State to the Maldives, and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation on areas of mutual interest. The Minister further informed the Assistant Secretary of State of the developments regarding the recent Male’ Water Crisis, and extended appreciation for the declaration of support from the United States Government.
During the meeting, the Assistant Secretary of State noted the strong bilateral ties between the countries, and noted the many instances of cooperation on issues of mutual interest. She also expressed the commitment of the United States Government to work with the Maldives in strengthening its democracy and achieving further progress and development.
Minister Dunya was accompanied by Ambassador-at- Large Mr. Ahmed Mohamed, Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms Fathimath Inaya, Director at the International Affairs Department Ms Mariyam Midhfa Naeem and Senior Desk Officer at the US Division Ms Fathimath Liusha.
During the one day visit, Assistant Secretary will call on President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Minister of Defence and National Security, Col (rtd) Mohamed Nazim. The Assistant Secretary of State arrived in Maldives this morning, on her first official visit in her current capacity.
