Ibrahim Saeed, a native to Addu City, was found dead while out at sea in Fiyoari island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll on Sunday.
The 32-year-old had been in Fiyoari since Saturday, after “Litus Hazaanaa”- the boat he was working on- was forced to dock there due to adverse weather conditions.
Noting that he is believed to have gone in the water at around 11:10 on Sunday, Fiyoari island council’s vice president said that he was spotted after an hour or so.
While he was taken to the island’s health center immediately, citing doctors the council’s vice president said that he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to him, Ibrahim Saeed had gone into the water to rinse off before taking a shower on the boat. He is reported to have had a history of seizures.
However, Saeed’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed and police are currently investigating the matter.
The deceased’s body is to be transferred to his hometown later on Sunday.
