Speaker Nasheed visits Gandhi's memorial in Raj Ghat

Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed has visited the memorial dedicated to Indian civil rights activist and freedom fighter, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or better known as Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi, India.
The speaker announced his visit via a tweet on Monday afternoon.
The visit is part of an official trip to India by the Speaker and a delegation from the parliament scheduled for December 9th-13th.
While the main objective of the trip is to sign an MoU between the parliament of the Maldives and the lower house of India's bicameral Parliament, "Lok Sabha", the visit aims to encourage both parliaments to improve their democratic systems and boost the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
Mahatma Gandhi was a lawyer and an activist who was at the forefront of the struggle for India's independence from the British Rule. He was assassinated by a Hindu nationalist, who shot him point-blank, on 30 January 1948.
