"Maldives is prepared for Ebola، the world is not": Minister Nazim

Even though Maldives have taken necessary precaution for the deadly Ebola virus outbreak، the international community is not yet ready، said acting Minister of Health، and Minister of Defence and National Security، Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim.
Inaugurating the planning ceremony held at Salt Cafe’ on Tuesday، Minister Nazim emphasized that Maldives maybe ready for an incoming threat، but a small country as such will need assistance from the International community and as well the collective support from the NGOs within the country.
“The aid from other countries is of high importance for us. Even if we are ready for an incoming threat، small countries like ours will always need the assistance from the international community. Like for instance، the Ebola outbreak. We have prepared for it. However، the rest of the world is not. And we cannot be more prepared than the rest of the world، which has not prepared well for the outbreak.” Minister Nazim said.
He further said that if all the stakeholders are not working together or putting effort to achieve one goal، huge complications would arise.
“Nothing can be achieved if all the stakeholders are not working for the same thing. It is not something which can be accomplished by one or two institutions.” said، the acting Minister of Health.
He also highlighted when an international body or a community should be alerted if an emergency situation occurs due to a threat.
The plan to counter the threats that may impose due to a sudden outbreak of a disease was constructed by Ministry of Health and the Health Protection Agency.
