Addressing a function held to welcome the newest addition, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer said that since President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom assumed office, the government has made tourism expansion a priority. Zameer said that as part of that effort new airports have been developed and operations of Maldivian have been expanded to usher in record numbers of tourists.
“Even today (Maldivian) carries 1000 tourists into Maldives on a weekly basis”, he said.
Zameer noted that the inclusion of Gan International Airport in the international flight grid would also bring in development to the tourism sector.

Minister Zameer noted that Maldivian used only six areoplanes when President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom assumed office. He noted that now the figure stands at twenty.
Managing Director of Island Aviation Abdul Haris said that the new Dash-8 plane. With this addition the strength of the Maldivian fleet stands at 21. They consist of nine Dash-8 planes, ten seaplanes and two airbuses.
In addition to domestic destinations, Maldivian operates to Thailand, China, India and Bangladesh.
