The first seaplanes of the Maldivian seaplane fleet have been brought to the country.
Maldivian reported that the first plane was brought in from Canada. The DH6 twin otter brand plane has a capacity of 19 persons.
Island Aviation Services (AIS), parent company of Maldivian, Head of Administration Ali Nashath reported to Vnews that even though the planes have been brought to the country, the service can be started only a month later and that there were some aspects that are to be finalized. He added that the seaplane jetty was finished and that the service would start once the entire project was complete.
The floating jetty is being built east of ATC tower, with an initial capacity of 8 seaplanes, in a separate area from the Blackstone operated Maldivian Air Taxi (MAT) and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
While Maldivian had brought in seaplanes, Villa had also announced that their seaplanes would be brought to the country as well. Villa Air has stated that their flights would be primarily for resort use, even though locals would be able to use the seaplanes for photo flights.
