Three Maldivian students have been prosecuted by a Malaysian Court for drugs usage in a music festival held in Malaysia.
Malaysian National news, Bernama, stated that Maldivians, Fazal Mohamed (24 years old), Hassan Ibrahim Hayyaan (20 years old) and Ahmed Hayyaan Majeed (19 years old) were arrested and prosecuted on charges of usage of Ecstasy, Amphetamine and Cannabis. Six persons who took part in the same music festival as the three Maldivians, had passed away due to drug overdose.
Should the charges be proven on the three, a jail term of maximum five years and a fine of Malaysian Ringitts 100,000 (equivalent to MVR 500,000) will be levied on the three. The three students have denied the charges pressed on them.
In addition to them, the same charges were levied on a group students from Australia, Mauritius, Sudan, Singapore, Indonesia and Zimbabwe. Out of the group, three students from Sudan and two students from Indonesia have accepted the charges on them.
Additional hearings of the case have been scheduled for tomorrow and next Sunday.
Three additional persons connected to the case are presently in critical condition. Out of the six who had passed away, three were women.
The music festival took place in Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lampur.
