2018 presidential race: Umar Naseer vows to 'defeat corrupt leaders'

Former home minister Umar Naseer says Maldives has no room for corrupt leaders and that he will defeat them through elections.
The presidential hopeful said this while sharing his aim for 2018 in the Viber group created for his supporters.
He said his “team” is working to establish an honest government in the country and that they began the efforts in 2008, knowing the “dangers and hurdles” they would face through the journey.
Naseer said his team members will not wear masks and that their true emotions can be seen on their faces.
“This is not a group that will change with changing tides. The colour you see on the outside is the colour that is on the inside.”
The former minister expressed confidence that his team will not surrender, even if the entire nation does. He added that even if the entire country is brought, he cannot be bought.
Shortly after his exit from the Yameen administration, Naseer had announced his 2018 presidential bid, and has been saying that he will win Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s presidential ticket.
While internal conflicts, reportedly over the issue of the presidential primary, has divided the ruling party, loyalists of President Abdulla Yameen say that the ticket should be handed to the President without a primary.
