Ali Moosa Didi, distinguished Maldivian litterateur, dies aged 73

Former Defence Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel’s father, Ali Moosa Didi, who made innumerable contributions to Maldivian literature, has died on Sunday at the age of 73.
According to his family, he was taken to Sri Lanka to be treated for low blood pressure as well as for some other ailments. He died at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday while undergoing treatment at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
Ali Moosa Didi is reputable for his expertise in Maldivian literature. A famous writer, he had contributed for several news magazines -- such as Dhuvahu News Aafathis, Miadhu News and Haveeru News -- as well as the popular ‘Faiythoora’ magazines since 1957. He had also recently turned to poetry works.
His greatest achievement was winning first place in the Maldives’ first-ever oratory competition, followed by the repeat of his success in several other literature competitions.
He had also contributed for the country’s political sector during the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s tenure, by being a member of the Special Majlis, which was formed to make amendments to the Constitution.
According to his friends, Ali Moosa Didi, was also proficient in carpentry and plastering.
