President establishes Special Cabinet Committee in response to Middle East developments

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established a Special Cabinet Committee in response to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, according to the President’s Office.
In a post on X, the Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, said the committee had been formed to implement coordinated measures to address any difficulties Maldivians may face as a result of the situation.
The committee was constituted earlier in the afternoon and brings together several key ministries. It is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, and includes the Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon; the Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer; the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed; the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen; the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan; the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim; the Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed; and the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
According to the spokesperson, the respective ministries represented on the committee will continue to share all relevant information with the public as developments unfold.
The move comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with governments across the region and beyond assessing potential impacts on their nationals and economic interests
