Reclamation works at Giraavaru Falhu, where land plots were allocated to Male’ residents under the last administration’s ‘Binveriya’ scheme, have resumed.
The previous administration initially awarded 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu. The current administration later determined that the reclaimed area will not accommodate this number plots, leading to an option for Giraavaru land recipients to switch to Gulhifalhu.
A total of 2,210 Giraavaru land recipients applied to switch to Gulhifalhu, and a draw was held among the applicants in June to determine who would receive plots from Gulhifalhu.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, via a post on X on Friday, said the reclamation of Giraavaru Falhu has resumed this morning. The President also shared a video of the site where reclamation works were proceeding.

The reclamation of Giraavaru Falhu has been awarded to Capital Marin and Civil Construction (CMCC).
The project involves reclaiming 160 hectares of land from the lagoon. Earlier, the government announced the completion of about 50 hectares of reclamation, but the project had remained stalled since then.
The current administration decided against allocating 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu as originally planned by the previous administration, citing that the number was decided without consideration of the space that would be required for the provision of basic services. As such, the current administration amended the land use plan which was publicized this week.
On November 25th, President Muizzu said reclamation works at Giraavaru Falhu and Hulhumale’ Phase III is expected to be completed within the next three months. Back then, the President noted that Giraavaru Falhu’s reclamation works would proceed using the two dredgers used for the reclamation works of Hulhumale’ Phase III.
