Nasheed should take responsibility for jailing politicians: President Yameen

President Abdulla Yameen has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed should take responsibility for jailing political leaders.
Speaking at a campaign event in ADh. Mahibadhoo on Monday, President Yameen claimed that during Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s government, then-President Nasheed wanted to make convictions outside of legal procedures in order to imprison opposition political leaders.
Responding to the accusations, Nasheed in a tweet on Tuesday asked if he had forced President Yameen to arrest his brother, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, his nephew, MP Faris Maumoon, and numerous others.
“Are you my puppet?”
He then asked Maldivians to vote for Joint Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Yameen’s administration has seen the conviction and imprisonment of MDP leader Nasheed, former President Maumoon, Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim, and Adhaalath Party (AP) leader Imran Abdulla.
