Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has raised concern due to the increase drug prevalence rate among students.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 38th Cadet Corps, Minister said that some students start using drugs in grade 8 even and that he is really concerned and worried about the fact.
The minister said that cadets are doing many beneficial things to the country and the service of cadets should be widened. He said that cadets should help to save drug using students from that.
Adam Shareef said that the cadets are capable and they can take an active role in correcting students who are on the wrong path. He said that this is something the cadets should think about. Adam Shareef said that even though the quality of education is high in the schools, there are a lot of vices practiced in the Maldivian community. “ Various social sicknesses are spreading across the society. We should accept that there are various youth facing different problems in Maldives” said the Minister.
Adam Shareef said that the schools should do more work in assessing how much the students are able to utilize the skills they learn at school. “ If it is not done, no matter how good the grades are, when students go out to the society, they will not be able to contribute to the development of the society” said Adam Shareef.
The minister praised the work that are being done by the cadets. He said that the cadets always work to bring good name and honor to the country. He said that the work of the cadets in Maldives and abroad are commendable. He noted that cadets and former cadets are well disciplined in the society.
