Finance Minister Moosa Zameer resigns

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Moosa Zameer, has resigned from his post.
The government's Chief Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef, has confirmed Minister Zameer's resignation. The government has not disclosed the reason behind the Finance Minister's resignation.
Moosa Zameer was initially appointed to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Following a cabinet reshuffle by the President in September 2024, Zameer was appointed as the Minister of Finance. Later this year, the President downsized government ministries and restructured the cabinet, subsequent to which Moosa Zameer was appointed to the portfolio overseeing finance and public enterprises.
At a time when the Maldives' financial situation was deeply concerning, Moosa Zameer had undertaken significant efforts in debt servicing and management under the guidance of the President.
