Nasheed fully changed to house arrest: "No deals made" – MP Ismail

The People’s Majlis member for Hoarafushi Electorate، MP Mohamed Ismail has stated that ‘no deals were made’ between the government and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) following former President Mohamed Nasheed being changed fully to house arrest to serve the remainder of his 13 year prison sentence.
Speaking on “50 Minute” at SunTV last night، MP Ismail said the transfer of Nasheed to house arrest was a coincidence.
Noting that it was an assurance of Nasheed’s constitutional rights، MP Ismail said the transfer was arranged after submission of medical documents. He added that it was not accorded ‘under a deal’.
“Nasheed، or anyone will be transferred with concerns to their (medical) conditions،” MP Ismail said، highlighting that the process was arranged after the doctors counselled on it.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed who has been serving a 13 year prison sentence on terrorism charges has been changed to house arrest for the remainder of his sentence yesterday.
Nasheed was sentenced for 13 years in prison on terrorism charges for kidnapping the sitting chief judge of criminal court، Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed، in 2012 during Nasheed’s administration.
Meanwhile، several political entities are alleging that the transfer was arranged under a special deal made between the government and MDP.
