The Maldives and Japan have reaffirmed their close bilateral relations during a courtesy call at the President’s Office.
Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko, paid a courtesy call on Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef where the both sides discussed avenues to further strengthen bilateral relations as the two countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
The President’s Office said the Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan's continued support for the Maldives, particularly in areas such as human resource development, infrastructure development, education, sports cooperation, climate resilience, disaster management, and community development programmes. He also welcomed the growing people-to-people ties between the two countries and highlighted the importance of expanding tourism and economic cooperation.
Concluding the call, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening the partnership between the Maldives and Japan.
