Arrested individuals in connection to bank robbery in Villingili, remanded

Maldives Police Service has confiscated hefty amounts of cash stolen in the robbery at national Bank of Maldives branch in Villingili island of Gaaf Alif atoll, and the seven arrested in connection to the robbery have been remanded.
Police revealed that the Villingili Magistrate Court had remanded five of the arrested individuals by 15 days and two by seven days. Four of the remaining individuals who were arrested on Tuesday, have not yet been remanded. Police reported that one out of the arrested individuals is an expatriate.
Moreover, police further revealed that they had confiscated hefty amounts of cash stolen in the robbery, inside an old washing machine in an abandoned house in the island. The cash bundles consist of Maldivian Rufiyaa, as well as foreign notes.
Neither the police nor the bank revealed details of exactly how much was stolen in the robbery which was reported to them close to 6am on Monday and that the robbers had evidently removed parts of the roof of the building and entered through the opening.
The bank has halted its services temporarily, until the police investigations conclude.
BML revealed that they will resume services once the police conclude investigations into the robbery.
