The Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has stated that the shortage of administrative staff in council offices of small island populations is an escalating concern, and efforts are underway to address this issue.
In a post shared on social media, Minister Adam Shareef Umar highlighted that councils in small communities with thriving tourism and other economic opportunities are increasingly facing difficulties in recruiting administrative personnel.
The Minister noted that he is working closely with relevant institutions to find a sustainable solution to this issue. The government is currently undertaking several initiatives to resolve the issues faced by island councils. In addition to addressing the recruitment of necessary administrative staff, the government is also working extensively to alleviate the space constraints and infrastructure challenges confronting these councils.
These efforts include the re-development of damaged council buildings and the strengthening of the decentralisation system to ensure that councils can effectively provide essential services to their residents.
