Maldives has begun preparations to claim the world record for the longest single open water dive.
The 'Across Maldives Dive' organised by Ocean Six Fifty will take place in two phases, with the first inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam at the Hulhumalé beach.
At the ceremony, the minister he sees the sea being utilised with new innovative technology, and that this is something the government is happy to support.
He also said that by the end of this record attempt, many more people who did not know Maldives would be introduced to the country.
Ocean Six Fifty, which organises the event, said the first record will be set next Wednesday, which is a 17 kilometre dive around Hulhumalé.
The second record will be set by diving from one side of Maldives to the other, which is from HA. Thuraakunu to Addu City.
The total dive will be a total of 4,600 kilometres, making it the longest dive in the world.
