Recipient of Nishaan Izzudin Honor Award Ibrahim Rasheed has stated that former Justice Sheikh Mohamed Jameel had instructed all to thank Allah for granting independence.
Speaking to PSM, Ibrahim Rasheed said that then Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir had informed him after signing the declaration of independence on 26th July 1965, at 10.00 am. He added that upon receiving the message he had convened the cabinet at noon. Rasheed said that he had requested Sheikh Mohamed Jameel for guidance on what to do following independence, and as such the Sheikh had instructed all to prostate to Allah in thanks for independence.
Rasheed also stated that Prime Minister Nasir had instructed not to carry out any activities prior to the formal announcement of independence at 4.00 pm on BBC.
This year’s activities will start after the morning prayers, with a special dua.
