Boduthakurufaanu Magu project will resolve Malé parking shortages, says President

A definitive solution to the ongoing parking crisis in the greater Malé region will be secured upon the completion of the entire Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said during an appearance on the second episode of the PSM News podcast ‘Nation Chat’.
Addressing what he identified as one of the most burdensome challenges for residents of the capital region, President Muizzu outlined three primary deficiencies currently plaguing the city’s thoroughfares: poor road quality, persistent parking shortages, and frequent flooding. To address these issues along the northern perimeter of the capital, the initiative involves reclaiming land outward to construct a modern, two-way asphalt-layered road. The current phase focuses on segments two, three, four, and five, encompassing the coastline from the Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
"I believe that once the section currently under construction is finished, a highly significant portion of the link road will be complete,” President Muizzu said, adding that the subsequent phase will commence following the conclusion of this segment.
The modernisation of the outer road into a spacious, two-way corridor around the congested capital is expected to provide the greatest relief to motorists navigating the inner streets of Malé. The segment under construction will feature a dedicated parking zone capable of accommodating 500 motorcycles, which government statements indicated would significantly ease parking difficulties for individuals frequenting the area.
While the administration is undertaking critical efforts to construct a dedicated parking facility, the physical commencement of that project has been delayed due to unsecured foreign loans, President Muizzu disclosed. Efforts are underway to finance a solution directly through the state budget without relying on external funding, and certain private entities have already been commissioned to construct parking facilities in designated areas of Hulhumalé.
