Over 630,000 tourists visit the Maldives so far in 2021

Ministry of Tourism has confirmed the total arrival of tourists to Maldives on year-to-date basis, reporting over 630,000 arrivals.
Moreover, the state authority confirmed the total tourist arrivals from 01 January until 04 August 2021 was recorded at 630,943. With this, the tourist arrivals to Maldives so far in 2021 has already exceeded significantly from the annual total of 2020.
In 2020, the total tourist arrivals throughout the year did not break beyond 600,000 and reportedly reached only to 555,494. The island nation had suffered drastically in the previous year due to the nationwide outbreak of Covid-19 viral contagion.
On the contrary, the tourism industry has been showing positive signs of growth and resilience throughout the current year with daily average of tourist arrivals increasing from 1,827 in June to 4,644 by first week of August.
Meanwhile, tourist source markets indicate uptick with Russia maintaining top position with a total arrival count of 145,293 so far and India following closely behind with 108,959 arrivals so far.
Other popular and major markets to Maldives include Germany, USA, Ukraine along with consistent European countries and Middle-East nations with newer markets emerging from these regions.
