Led by lawyer Abdulla Haseen, the party's registration was authorized by the EC on August 5.
Haseen is one of the lawyers that represented Hussain Humaam, the man infamously sentenced to death in connection to the murder of former Ungoofaru MP Dr. Afraasheem Ali. An active former participant at multiple rallies of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Haseen has insisted that his decision to leave MDP was not based on any crossfires between him and the party.
The registration of any political party requires a minimum of 3,000 willing signatures. In addition, the allocated government grant will only be received upon the registration of at least 10,000 members to any particular party.
Currently, there are six registered parties in the Maldives: Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), MDP, Jumhooree Party, religiously conservative Adhaalath Party, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).
