State appeals verdict to unfreeze Yameen’s bank accounts

The state has appealed the verdict to unfreeze former President Abdulla Yameen’s bank accounts.
On December 14, last year, the police froze Yameen’s accounts, which had over MVR 100 million, over a case regarding Yameen’s alleged illicit transactions as president.
The High Court nullified the freeze order on March 31 and the state appealed to the Supreme Court on Monday.
An appeal hearing has been set for Thursday at 10:15am. The presiding judges will be Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi, and justices Abdulla Areef, Adam Mohamed Abdulla, Abdulla Didi, and Abdul Ghanee Mohamed.
While Yameen’s money laundering case is ongoing, he was initially kept in prison due to him potentially influencing witnesses, however, the High Court issued an order to release him, right after changing the judges’ bench. RaajjeMV understands that the state will also appeal Yameen’s release order.
