Maldives gives “high priority” to China, says pres

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom proclaimed that the Maldives gives high priority to its relations with China.
He made the remark during the courtesy call of China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kong Xuanyou.
According to the President’s Office, the president expressed his sincere gratitude for the strengthened cooperation between the Maldives and China, as well as for the support and assistance that China continues to extend for the socioeconomic development of the Maldives.
Discussions that followed included exploring further areas of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The president was accompanied at the call by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim, and Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer. The Assistant Foreign Minister of China was accompanied by the Ambassador of China to the Maldives, Wang Fukang, and the Third Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Fei.
