The Maldives has expressed support for Saudi Arabia following accusations by Yemen's Houthi movement that the kingdom was involved in besieging the Yemeni people.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian government backed an earlier declaration by Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry, which rejected the allegations made by the Houthis.
The Maldives said it recognised Saudi Arabia's longstanding efforts, carried out in cooperation with Yemen's internationally recognised government and in support of United Nations initiatives, to help achieve peace in the country and ease the suffering of its people.
The government also acknowledged Saudi Arabia's continued contributions to Yemen through humanitarian assistance and development support.
Reaffirming its solidarity with Saudi Arabia, the Maldives said it supported all efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in Yemen.
