Home Minister Umar Naseer has stated that Nasheed will be detained to serve 13 years of jail in Dhoonidhoo until a special unit is built in Maafushi.
A tweet made by Umar on Friday stated that Nasheed will be in Dhoonidhoo until a special unit for him is made in Maafushi.
Former president Nasheed has been jailed due to state pressed terrorism charges for illegally detaining Abdulla Gaazee. He was found guilty in Friday’s hearing and has been issued a verdict of 13 years of jail.
The verdict states that evidences provided by state have proven that the Nasheed is found guilty and he has been sentenced under Article 2(b) of the Terrorism Penal Code.
The lawyers of Nasheed have stated that they will appeal for the sentence issued on Nasheed in the High Court.
