Three foreigners on work visa detained for prostitution

Maldives Immigration has detained three foreigners in the Maldives on work visas over large-scale prostitution and deported two of them.
According to Immigration, the three individuals were detained during an operation conducted by the authority in collaboration with Maldives Police Service. While two of them have already been deported, efforts are underway to deport the remaining individual, added Immigration.

The three of them were identified as two Vietnamese women – Thi Minh Vu, 44 and Thi Hang Dao 38 and a Laotian woman, Southida Phimmasone, 37.
Both Vietnames women have been deported: Thi Minh Vu on February 28th and Thi Hang Dao on March 15th.
The current administration is undertaking significant efforts to resolve the longstanding issue of illegal immigration in the Maldives. As part of these efforts, Immigration is conducting regular raids to identify and detail illegal migrants.
The operation has also seen the detention of migrants involved in prostitution.
