Maldives Customs Service has seized over one kilogram of drugs smuggled into the Maldives through postal services.
Customs said the package was intercepted on Tuesday during a search of a package after suspicions arose regarding its contents. The suspected drugs in the package tested positive for cannabis upon initial testing.
The total weight of the items, including packaging, was 1.070 kg. The drugs have an estimated street value of MVR 856,000, customs said.
Authorities have handed over both the seized drug package and a 52-year-old man who arrived to collect the package, to the police for further investigation.
