An agreement to formally hand over and manage the H.A. Diddhoo Islamic Centre was signed today between the Diddhoo Council and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
The signing ceremony took place at the Diddhoo Council Office, where Council President Abdulla Rasheed represented the Council, while Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signed on behalf of the Ministry.
The newly established Islamic Centre—which was inaugurated yesterday (November 28, 2025) features a mosque, an Islamic library, a branch of the Holy Quran Centre, a multi-purpose hall, five classrooms, a seminar room, an office building, and a pantry.
The mosque within the complex is named after Shaheed Umar Ahmed, a native of Diddhoo who was martyred on November 3 while serving at the Islamic Centre in Malé. The facility, with a capacity of 1,500 people, includes a lift to ensure accessibility for all users.
The project was contracted to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) in May 2023 at a cost of MVR 50.8 million. RCC officially handed over the completed Islamic Centre to the Ministry on November 27, 2025.
